Brummer, along with the agency’s two Democratic Georgetown University academic Chris Brummer has emerged as the leading candidate to chair the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), according to three people with knowledge of the discussions. Brummer is also intimately familiar with the cryptocurrency and blockchain business, having founded the DC Fintech Week conference in 2017. He has run it since then, and hosts the Fintech Beat podcast. Brummer is also very familiar with the CFTC, serving as a member of its Subcommittee on Virtual Currencies. Democratic CFTC commissioner, Rostin Behnam, steps into the position for the time being. According to Reuters sources, academic, Chris Brummer, is in line to replace Tarbert.
